What is a dental veneer?

A Bridge is a customized lab made appliance that replaces missing teeth in a gap. The one or more teeth on either side of the gap are re shaped and adjusted (abutment teeth), then have crowns placed on them. These crowns have the false teeth joined to them to form one unit that of the gap.

It is important that the teeth on either side of the gap have healthy bone and gum support. At Hermes London Dental Clinic, your dentist will fully assess your teeth clinically and with the use of x-rays to make sure you are suitable for this procedure.

What is a bridge made from?

There are essentially two options when choosing a dental bridge

An all ceramic bridge is made of only white ceramic. It is the highest quality bridge available and as there is no metal, it provides the very best aesthetics. If over time the gum does recede, no unsightly grey margins are visible

A metal and ceramic bridge has a metal core on top of which a ceramic porcelain is bonded. This kind of bridge can work well, over time however if the gum recedes a grey line where the metal is can sometimes be seen.

How long can bridges last for?

Once a bridge has been placed over your tooth, it will require the same amount of attention as your natural tooth. If a high level of oral hygiene is maintained as well as regular dental and hygiene appointment a crown can last from 10-15 years if not longer.
